Sunshine Socks

I've been knitting for a little more than five years, but I completed my first pair of socks this morning. They're just your basic, no-frills socks, knit with lemons-and-sunshine washable yarn.

The weather today is disgusting (it's February—where is our snow?!?), but my cheery new socks lighten the mood.

Knitty's Socks 101 explains the basics of sock construction and design—it may be the only sock pattern you'll ever need.

I still prefer mittens and thick, fuzzy yarn, but I can't help but smile when I see those stripes.

  1. I love your new socks. I wish I were a knitter (maybe I should say "good knitter") so I could knit socks. And I wish I had the patience to become a good knitter and knit socks. I just crocheted a scarf with thick yarn and a big hook - can socks be crocheted?

  5. wow! those beauties are perfect! Yellow is such a great, zippy color. I can crochet, but unfortunately, there aren't very many cool things you can make with crocheting - except afghans and doilies. So, I'm totally amazed by your gorgeous socks. neat!

(I can't knit to save my life, so I'm terribly impressed with your creative talents and ability to make such pretty, useful things with a couple of pointy sticks and some yarn!) :-)

  7. Aw, that almost makes me wish that the rainy weather over here was overcast (instead of rainy-sunny) so I could see what kind of yellow cheer I could put on my feet.

    Oh wait! I couldn't, cause your socks are the cheeriest!

  8. Love that cheerful yellow colorway! I've never knit socks myself, but I tend to walk straight through mine at an alarming rate, so it never seems worth the time to make them.

  12. Those socks are adorable! Yellow is my favorite color. I can't usually wear it cause it looks horrible on me, but I could rock yellow socks!
